Matthew 6:6,  “But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you”.

If you want to walk in step with the Holy Spirit you must put Jesus first.

The main thrust of the ministry of the Holy Spirit here on earth is to glorify Jesus. He would distance Himself from you the moment you start making yourself the centre of your prayer-life. Whatever He tells you, do it. And that includes your needs. If the Spirit tells you to pray for your finance, then do it. If he allows you to pray for your health issues, then do it. You don’t pray because you have a need. You pray because you have been led, even for your own needs.

That was how Jesus lived in the flesh. Whatever He saw His Father do, that He did. Whatever He heard His Father say, that’s what He said. Heb 10:9, ‘Then he said, ‘Here I am, I have come to do your will.’ You see, our Lord didn’t have a life of his own. No destiny apart from the one predestined. He had no ambition except to please His Father. So we too must offer total and unconditional surrender to the Holy Spirit. He won’t give Himself totally to you if you don’t give yourself totally to Him.

The Holy Spirit is very sensitive

Heaven where the Holy Spirit will transport the one praying to “our Father in heaven” has a totally different environment to our world. People in our world think of things. Beings in heaven think only of God. He is the alpha and the omega. He fills all their thoughts all the time, whatever they may be doing. God wants to fill our thoughts 24/7. That’s why he instructed Joshua in chapter 1:8, “Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.”

Smith Wigglesworth Prayer Habit

Smith Wigglesworth was a man of prayer. He once remarked that he seldom prayed for more than half and hour, but seldom went more than half an hour without praying. His practice was to be in constant communication with God. When asked what the secret of his life of signs and wonders was, he said, “ If you find me alone you will find me talking to God. I make it my business to talk to God all the time….I believe that’s the reason why God keeps me right, always right, always ready’. Such was the power when Wigglesworth prayed, many could not stand to stay in the same room as him, such was the weight of God’s presence.

Jesus said, “When you pray, say, Our Father in heaven.” This is a loaded statement. To say, “Our Father”, is to see our Father. You cannot address God in such a personal direct way without seeing Him. I believe when Jesus prayed He was able to see the Father, and have intimate fellowship with Him. God does not expect us to have a virtual meeting with Him. If He preferred to have a face to face meeting with Moses, and talk to him as with a friend, how much more with us blood-washed sons. The more time we spend in His presence the easier it is to acclimatise to seeing Him.

Matt 5:8 says, “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.”

The Gaelic (Scottish) translation says: “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they see God”. What a blessed way to live?
